Why I Started Little Lantern Kits

If you’re a parent of young kids, you know the feeling: the holidays arrive, you want them to feel magical, and suddenly you’re juggling school schedules, work, errands, and a mile-long to-do list. That’s exactly where Little Lantern Kits began.

I love creating meaningful traditions for my family. The little moments — the excitement of a surprise treat, the joy of a simple activity together, the sparkle in my kids’ eyes when something feels special. Those moments matter. They become the memories kids carry with them long after the decorations come down. But I also know how overwhelming it can be to make those moments happen.

A few years ago, I wanted to create an advent calendar for my kids that included a variety of small surprises and activities. What I quickly discovered was that most online options required buying bulk packs of the same item — 24 tiny erasers, 24 plastic toys, or 24 pieces of candy. That wasn’t what I wanted and, honestly, I gave up. I ended up not doing advent calendars and saying to myself, "I'll do it next year."

When next year came, I found myself busy all over again and struggling to make it work. But, I thought what if I paired up with other parents struggling with the same thing? I'd go ahead and buy the bulk pack and split it up across many families and kids. That's where the idea of Little Lantern came from: the belief that other busy parents also needed that extra support to make things fun and more importantly, do-able, for busy families.

Our goal is simple:

Each kit is designed with variety and intention, so parents can create special moments without spending hours planning, shopping, or assembling. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about the stuff (though my two-year old may disagree). It's about the feeling of gathering together, lighting a little spark of joy, and creating memories that glow long after the moment passes.
